So what if every chimp and his ball sack has blogged this already? It’s still better than most things out there. Cut up/minimal/noise are all thrown into the melting pot by the big bad Fuck Buttons. This is really druggy, really sexy and maybe the sort of thing that Police Sergeant Neil Howie would be burnt alive to if The Wicker Man was set in Dalston. Love it.

Not a new remix by any stretch of the imagination but a seriously brilliant one nevertheless. I heard this months ago on the remix promo CD and didn’t give it much time of day, however it crept up on me and just the other day I heard it in a branch of a slightly dubious clothes shop and it’s remained on heavy rotation ever since. Coming across a bit like an updated version of Chic, the mix bounces along with an infectious bassline and fruity piano chords that never get in the way of the brilliantly lilting disco groove. Give it a couple of spins and you’ll have your hips moving like Ed from Friendly Fires in no time at all!

Italo is cool. Silky, seductive, bouncy basslines, what more could you want? I don’t know anything about Mimo but this mix by the sexy Vega delivers on all counts. A steady mid set builder with a chorus that makes every single hair on the back of your neck explode. File alongside Aeroplane, Siriusmo, Fred Falke and Miami Horror.

In honour of the band, that in my very humble opinion should have won the Mercurys. Consistently brilliant and exuberant.

So yeh, it’s not as though Jay Z needs any blogging but it’s hard not to when these tunes are so bang on. The 5th track to be leaked from the Blueprint 3, which drops on the 14th of September. With production as hot as this I’m even more excited about the record. Plus, I really don’t like Alicia keys but she knocks this chorus out of the park.
Without a doubt one of the best new releases to come out of Warp of recent years and what perfect timing, it being 20 years since the best label out there was conceived. Hudson Mohawke sounds a bit like like Flying Lotus trying to out sample Just Blaze with Super Collider and DJ Shadow standing behind them wanking off. Don’t let that rather crude and weird comparison put you off, this chap is the nuts and it’s only a matter of time before he blows yours off.
Here’s the free download from his debut:
And a rather tasty album sampler:
These guys are very effing trendy but very bloody good. Coming across a bit like Bauhaus spaffing all over Nick Cave, they are every East Londoners favourite new band and why the fuck not? Lead singer Tobias’ vocals are totally intriguing and impossible to compare to anything else out there and apparently he’s 11ft tall as well. Give their tune ‘Dead Eye Dancer’ a spin, produced and mixed by Monsieur James Rutledge.

New Favourite Song Alert!! This is great. Described by the ever ‘on it’ blog, 88daysinmyveins, as The Beach Boys with Joy Division basslines. And that description couldn’t be more accurate. It’s been out for a while but I’ve been busy being in Paris, making Techno and playing badminton. I think it’s used in some advert but I can’t remember for the life of me which one. Download and Love. x
