APHEX TWIN – XTAL

This is one of those pieces of music, like Burial manages to have achieved recently, that people cannot stop listening to. However, this predates Burial and all that biz by about 20 years and it still sounds totally brilliant and captivating even now. Make it so.

These guys are totally and utterly unstoppable. These guys are Chase & Status and this is their remix of new artist Nneka. And it’s off the fucking map. Dubstep/R&B/metal/80’s synth pop all get violated in this effortless cross pollination by the best producers out there at the moment.  Download. Buy. Love.

Well, JOCKS was telling the truth, i have been off TMing Sky Larkin for the past week, so to continue the theme . . .

Jack Hudson is the lovely man from Bristol who has designed them 3 tshirts, multiple posters and even some little cassette single covers.

Christopher This is pissing around for the next few days with Sky Larkin, so I thought I’d honour this fact with posting a very beautiful remix by Lull of Matador. I think it would mix rather nicely into my Citadels remix. hhmmm…

My latest mix of the very excellent Citadels. The original is great, so it was a joy to remix. In the words of Stef from the band, ‘it has a really nice 90’s shimmering electronica feel’. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

DAFT PUNK – TRON LEGACY THEME

I’ve never seen TRON. There, I’ve said it. However, when I heard that Daft Punk were composing the soundtrack to this ‘remake’ I got a bit gooey around a certain part of my body. Picking up where the great Walter/Wendy Carlos left off with the original score, the ‘Punk’ kick some 21st Century life into it with phasing synths and primitive drum noises. The film looks like it’s going to be brilliant, if the teaser shown at Comic Con is anything to go by. Plus, it’s got Olivia Wilde in… the lesbian from the OC? Brilliant.

Just for good measure here’s the original theme by Wendy Carlos

A tad different.

I have to be totally honest here, I know bugger all about who this act are, but I can’t get enough of this track. Woozy, hot and trippy. Perfect for this current weather. Download this and feel yourself drift away.

CARDON COPY STREET ADS

We’ve all seen them, maybe some of us have even ripped the little number off the bottom of one of them, and people never put as much effort into them as they should. Street adverts. Someone, like this Patrick fellow in the above ad, will write scrappily with a marker that he’s lost his cat and post it on a telephone pole. Where’s the imagination in that??

Thankfully Cardon Copy, also known as Cardon Webb of Queens, NY, has been replacing the hastily knocked up signage with his own creative visions. I’d much rather see the streets covered with these than the originals . . .

Eeugh. For more of his creations, check out the website.

DAN BLACK- ALONE (MJ COLE REMIX)

DAN BLACK

He’s back! The godfather of UK Garage returns with a sublimely ace mix of ‘hot new’ electro pop ting: Dan Black. Frankly the original gets right up my duodenum (look it up) but Mr. Matt Coleman weaves a tight, elegant bassline and his trademark pizz string stabs with the usual chunky 2 step beat to create a banger. Feels like I’m back in 1999. If you don’t know much MJ Cole, look up his album ‘Sincere’. A benchmark in Garage.
